Description
Description
The fountain valve on its own, for Smidley #3 and #5 cattle fountains. A 3/4 inch base with a .25 inch orifice, and the part to order when the float and the arm are still sound and only the valve needs changing.
How it is built
The base is a single piece rather than an assembly, so it keeps its shape when the nut is drawn up and does not warp against the tank wall. The cap carries a slotted vent that relieves pressure behind the valve and assists the anti-siphon function. Inside, the plunger is crowned so that it turns as water passes through it, which keeps sand and rust moving out of the seat instead of settling in it.

Common questions
Does the valve come with the float and arm?
No, this is the valve only. For the complete working end, order the new style 915FVF float and valve assembly or the old style assembly.
What else might I need while I am in there?
The poly float, the six inch float arm and the adjust screws are all stocked on their own.
Will it work on a high pressure line?
This is the standard pressure valve. On a high pressure supply, look at the Smidley high pressure valve with hood, part 100927, or send us a message with your pressure and we will tell you which way to go.
How is the water level set?
Not at the valve. The level is set by where the float sits on the arm and by the two adjust screws that clamp the arm in position.
Ordering the valve by itself?
Check the float and the arm while the assembly is out. If either is going, it is less handling to do the lot at once, and we are happy to talk it through with your fountain number.
