Description
Description
Hoskins 700 watt element, 240 volt
The 240 volt build of the Hoskins 700 watt heating element. Same frame mounted design as the rest of the range, wound for a 240 volt supply.
This is the element, not the complete heater
What you see here is the bare heating element on its leads. The complete Hoskins heater is a different part: a galvanized housing with the element, a blower, a thermostat and a cord already built in, listed separately and priced accordingly. Buy the element if yours has burned out and the housing is sound. Buy the complete heater if the whole assembly is finished.
Specifications
- Output: 700 watts
- Voltage: 240 volts
- Current: about 2.9 amps
- Lead: bare ended, hard wired, not a plug in element
- Mounting: frame mounted, clear of the stainless tank
Thermostat
This element is in the Hoskins A and AA family, which runs the small thermostat. The large thermostat belongs on the B, 2B, C, 2C and 3C heaters and is a different part.
240 volt element, check before you wire it
This element is wound for 240 volts. Put it on a 120 volt circuit and it will run at roughly a quarter of its rated output, which will not keep a tank open in a hard freeze. Put a 120 volt element on 240 volts and you will destroy it. Confirm the supply at the waterer before you order.
Wiring it in
Hoskins calls for #8 copper from the waterer to the breaker box, an eight foot ground rod at the waterer, and a GFCI breaker where local code requires one. The factory wire size chart runs from 30 to 400 feet of cable at 115 to 120 volts on a 200 amp service at 2 percent voltage drop; it is printed in the Hoskins installation instructions. Hoskins advises a licensed electrician for the hookup.
Not sure which element you have?
Pull the old one and read it before you order. If you cannot, send us the model number off the waterer through the contact form and we will match it.
