Description
Hoskins 4 in. float
The float is what tells the valve when to stop. It threads onto the end of a Hoskins float rod, the rod runs back to the Bob valve, and as the water drops the float drops with it and opens the valve. Hoskins puts it this way on their own parts page: the float rod attaches to the Bob valve, then to the float.
Floats get waterlogged before they fail outright
A float that has taken on water sits lower than it should, which holds the valve open a little and leaves the tank running higher than it was set. If your trough has crept up on you and the valve looks clean, lift the float out and shake it.
Specifications
- Size: 4 in.
- Threaded stem for a Hoskins float rod
- Sold as the float alone, no rod and no valve
What it works with
This is the float for Hoskins waterers that run a Bob valve on a float rod. Hoskins supplies those rods in 4 in., 6 in. and 8 in., and the rod length is set by your model, not by the float.
If your waterer has no float rod, you do not need this
Models built around the 3/8 in. GP valve assembly, which replaced the discontinued RM 153, carry the float inside the assembly. There is no separate rod and no separate float on those. If your spec plate lists a 4, 6 or 8 in. rod you are in the right place; if it does not, you want the GP valve assembly instead.
