Ritchie replacement drain plugs - Optional replacement drain plug end for use in the WaterMatic and WaterMaster series unit. Recommended when extra support is needed against animal abuse. (not actual drain plug...just an accessory)
The 18693 is an accessory for the 18470 3 inch drain plug, and it solves one specific problem: an animal that keeps pulling the drain plug out of the waterer. A heifer that has worked out how to do it will do it again, and a trough that drains itself every day is worse than a trough with no plug at all.
The package gives you a way to clamp the plug in place. It supplies a washer that goes on the outside of the drain hole and tightens down from the inside of the trough, so the plug is held rather than simply pushed into the opening.
Order this with the plug, not instead of it
The 18693 does not replace your drain plug — it anchors the one you have. If the plug itself is chewed, distorted or missing, order the 18470 as well. The two work together: the plug seals the hole and the 18693 keeps it there.
It is worth having on hand before the next time the plug comes out. Once an animal has learned the trick, the plug alone is rarely the answer.
