Hoskins 8 in. float rod
A fully threaded stainless steel rod that joins the Bob valve to the float. Stainless matters here: the rod lives half in and half out of the water, which is exactly where a plated rod gives up.
Rod length is your water level
This is not a part to substitute. The rod length is what decides how high the tank fills, so a 6 in. rod in place of an 8 in. puts the water at the wrong height. The 8 in. is the one most Hoskins owners need. Every cattle tank runs it, both CH combination units do, and so do the three largest sheep troughs.

If the rod is coming out, look at the float and the valve at the same time. All three sit in the one compartment, the service door is already off, and doing them together saves taking the cover off twice in a season.
