Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for shipping
These waterers are built to order at the factory, so plan on two to four weeks from the time the order goes in.
The AHW80 is the cattle and horse size, rated for 80 head, heated as standard for winter.
The casing is one piece heavily insulated poly, so there is no seam and nothing to rust or corrode. A thick styrofoam floor holds the frost line below the unit, and the urethane in the walls is what carries it through a cold snap, tested down to 20 below.
The heat pad sits directly under the trough, sealed away from the animal entirely so there is no path to a shock. The thermostat brings it on when the water reaches 42 degrees and shuts it off again as soon as it is not needed, so it only runs when it has to, and your herd is pulling warm water as they drink. The valve is non siphoning, the hold downs are built in, the drain plugs pull for cleaning, and the access doors are big enough to actually get at the waterline and the heater.
It arrives assembled. The poly is UV infused, so it holds its color instead of chalking out in the sun.
Check your water pressure
The standard valve suits water pressure up to 55 PSI. Above that, fit a pressure regulator ahead of it. On gravity flow or a low pressure line, use the low pressure brass valve 54130328, or 54130338 for the valve and float together.

Troubleshooting Guide
Four Times the Insulation, Tested to Twenty Below
The Behlen AHW80 is the heated cattle and horse waterer built for real winter. A one piece insulated poly casing will not rust or corrode, a thick styrofoam floor holds the frost line below the unit, and extra thick urethane in the walls gives over four times the insulation of competing models, tested to 20 degrees below zero.

Behlen Country Waterer Questions
Which Behlen model do I have?
Which Behlen model do I have?
The model number is usually on a tag inside the lid or stamped on the side of the casing. If you cannot find it, send us a photo of the unit and the valve at petecosupply@gmail.com, or email petecosupply@gmail.com, and we will identify it for you.
My waterer runs constantly or overfills. What should I check first?
My waterer runs constantly or overfills. What should I check first?
Start with the valve and the float. On the MC valve units, the plunger and seal kit is the usual culprit, and on the stall founts it is the Kerrick valve. Both are inexpensive and both are on our Behlen valves and floats page.
Do the heated Behlen units need a dedicated circuit?
Do the heated Behlen units need a dedicated circuit?
The heat pads draw between 75 and 250 watts depending on the model, so they do not need much. We still recommend a dedicated GFCI protected circuit, and have an electrician make the connection.
Can I run an energy free HydroStation where it gets well below zero?
Can I run an energy free HydroStation where it gets well below zero?
Yes, but only with enough head drinking from it. The energy free design works off the ground water the herd pulls up the line every time an animal drinks, so the insulation on its own will not hold the trough open. Plan on a minimum of 10 head on a two trough unit and 20 head on a four trough, with the waterer as their only water source. Then set the supply line below your frost depth and put an earth tube under the unit. If your numbers run lighter than that, choose a heated unit or plan on supplemental heat.
Are parts still available for the older Behlen waterers?
Are parts still available for the older Behlen waterers?
Most of them, yes. Valves, floats, heat pads, thermostats, drain plugs and gasket kits are all still stocked. Find your model on the Behlen shop by parts list page, or email us and we will match it.
