Description
Description
The Trojan Specialty Products 3-gallon Pen Waterer. Like its predecessor, this easy-to-carry waterer is perfect for use in pens and is ideal for shows. The new 3-gallon waterer features a narrower design to save space on pen walls while the heavy-duty handles make transporting a breeze.
FEATURES:
- Narrow design to save space in pens
- Heavy-duty, built-in handles for ease in carrying
- Thick Mounting holes for use with washers and bolts or zip ties
- Heavy-Duty Bulkhead fitting connection
- 45-degree Elbow and Trojan Cone Throat 75 Nipple
- Ideal for traveling, show pens or where temporary watering is needed. Motion and jarring will not activate the nipple.
- Use in sick pens to deliver medication (rinse thoroughly between each use)
- Constructed of high-impact plastic, these Waterers resist rust and corrosion.
- They are easy to mount, move, fill, drain, clean, and store. Screw on top cap for easy filling without having to remove from mounted position.
- They are easy to attach to a fence or pen and can be easily adjusted for the drinking height needed for your animal.
Animals simply bite down or move the stainless steel trigger in the center of the nipple to activate the water flow. The water flow stops when the trigger is released. Use wherever you need a portable, durable water source.
NOTE: Waterer comes complete with nipple
For Use With: Pigs
Built for the Pen and the Show Barn
A portable gravity waterer with a stainless steel trigger nipple. The pig bites down or nudges the trigger, water flows, and it stops the moment they let go. Nothing to plumb, nothing to rust.

Setting Up Your Pen Waterer
-
1. Pick the spot
Hang it at shoulder height for the pigs that will use it, on a wall or corner that will not get caught by a gate. The 3 gallon sits flat against a wall, the 4 gallon tucks into a corner.
-
2. Mount it solid
Use the molded mounting holes and real hardware into something structural. A full 4 gallon waterer is better than 30 pounds once it is filled, and a bracket that flexes will work loose.
-
3. Fill and seat the lid
Fill from the top and seat the vented lid properly. That vent is what lets water leave the tank, so a lid that is cross threaded or covered will stop the flow.
-
4. Show them the trigger
Most pigs find it within a few hours. If a young one is slow to work it out, move the trigger by hand a couple of times so they see and hear the water.
Pen Waterer Troubleshooting
Shop Pen Waterer Parts-
No water at all
Check the lid vent first, that is the usual cause. A blocked or badly seated vent creates a vacuum and nothing will come out no matter how hard the pig works the trigger.
-
It drips after they let go
Usually grit sitting on the seal. Drain it, rinse the nipple through with clean water and work the trigger several times. If it still drips, the seal is worn and repair kit 40028 replaces it.
-
Flow has gone slow
Scale or feed dust in the nipple. Pull it, soak it and clear the orifice. Hard water does this on a schedule, so a rinse between groups is time well spent.
-
Leaking around the body
Check the nipple is still tight into the tank, these back off slightly with the vibration of hauling. If the seat is worn rather than loose, that is what the repair kit is for.

Pen Waterer Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing and Mounting
Should I get the 3 gallon or the 4 gallon?
Should I get the 3 gallon or the 4 gallon?
Go by the space, not the herd. The 3 gallon has a narrow profile and hangs flat on a pen wall, which is the one to pick where wall space is short or you are hauling it in a show box. The 4 gallon corner mount holds a gallon more and tucks into a corner out of the traffic line. The nipple, the body material and the repair kit are the same on both.
How high should it hang?
How high should it hang?
At shoulder height for the pigs that will be using it, so they can work the trigger comfortably without standing on it. Mount it somewhere a swinging gate will not catch it.
Can I mount it in a trailer?
Can I mount it in a trailer?
Yes, that is one of the things it is built for. Use the molded mounting holes and mount into something structural rather than thin panel, because a full waterer carries a fair bit of weight once you are moving.
Using It
Do pigs take to the trigger nipple?
Do pigs take to the trigger nipple?
Most find it within a few hours. If a young pig is slow to work it out, move the trigger by hand a couple of times so they can see and hear the water. Once one in the pen has it, the rest follow quickly.
Will it freeze?
Will it freeze?
Yes. This is not a heated waterer and there is no provision to add heat, so in sustained freezing weather it will freeze like any other open container. It is built for pens, show barns, trailers and the warmer months.
Can other animals use it?
Can other animals use it?
It suits large and small animals that can work a trigger nipple. Swine are what it is designed around and what most of our customers use it for.
Care and Parts
What is in the repair kit?
What is in the repair kit?
Part 40028 is the rebuild kit for the nipple assembly and seals, and it fits both the 3 gallon and the 4 gallon. If yours is dripping after the pig lets go, that is the part you want.
How should I clean it?
How should I clean it?
Drain it and rinse it out between groups, and run clean water through the nipple while working the trigger. Feed dust and scale are what slow the flow down, and both clear easily if you catch them early.
Buying
Do you sell them in multiples?
Do you sell them in multiples?
Yes, both sizes come in 2, 3 and 4 packs, which is how most show barns and finishing floors buy them. The pack price is the single price times the quantity, so there is no penalty for buying one at a time either.

View allBuying for a whole row of pens?
Both sizes come in 2, 3 and 4 packs at the same per unit price, so a finishing floor or a show string can be kitted out in one order.
