Description
Description
The Franklin P-40 holds 40 gallons and has six drinking openings around the outside, so several animals can drink at once. It sits low enough for poultry to reach and suits smaller pigs, which makes it a useful unit for a mixed pen.
Water level is held by the 73-V float valve, which is easy to get at and easy to adjust. The body is finished with smooth, rounded corners and edges throughout.
Forty Gallons, Six Openings, No Power Needed
The Franklin P-40 holds 40 gallons and sits low enough that poultry can reach it, with six drink openings around the unit so several animals drink at the same time. An easy to adjust 73 valve holds the level where you set it, and there is nothing to plug in.

Franklin Waterer Questions
Which Franklin model do I have?
Which Franklin model do I have?
Look for the tag inside the lid or on the side of the tank. Franklin has built the AP, F, PC and E series over the years and the parts do not cross between them, so the model number is what tells us which float, valve or heater fits. If the tag is gone, send us a photo and we will identify it for you.
Are parts still available for the older Franklin waterers?
Are parts still available for the older Franklin waterers?
Yes. The AP, F, PC and E series units are out of production, but we still stock floats and valves, heaters and thermostats, drain plugs, lids, gaskets and hardware for them. Every discontinued model has its own parts list on our site.
My waterer runs constantly or overfills. What should I check first?
My waterer runs constantly or overfills. What should I check first?
Nine times out of ten it is the float or the valve. A float that has taken on water sits too low and never shuts the valve off, and a valve with a worn seat will weep even when the float is set right. Check the float first since it is the cheaper part, and if it is dry and floating level, replace the valve.
Does a heated Franklin need a dedicated circuit?
Does a heated Franklin need a dedicated circuit?
Follow the wiring instructions that come with the unit and have an electrician confirm the circuit and ground. A waterer sitting in a wet lot is not the place to guess. Do not run one on an extension cord.
How do I keep it from icing up in the coldest weather?
How do I keep it from icing up in the coldest weather?
Make sure the heater and thermostat are both working, keep the lid seals in good shape so the heat stays in, and keep the unit full enough that the water keeps turning over. A waterer serving too few animals for its size is the most common reason one freezes even with the heat running.
