Description
Description
The Miraco 425 is the complete float assembly for the LilSpring line, the small one and two trough waterers that run off a single valve. It is the part that tells the valve when to stop filling: the bob float rides on the surface, the arm lifts with it, and at the height you set the valve closes.
What is in the assembly
- 342 nylon ratchet
- 343 brass thumbscrew
- 345 bob float, 4 x 4 in.
- 444 float arm, 2 1/2 in., stainless steel
Every metal part in the assembly is stainless steel apart from the brass thumbscrew, so nothing in it rusts in constant water.
How to set the water level
- Loosen the brass thumbscrew a turn or two. There is no need to take it out.
- Rotate the float arm inside the nylon ratchet. The ratchet is toothed, so the arm steps from one position to the next and holds where you leave it.
- Raise the float to raise the shut off level and lower it to lower the level. A small move at the ratchet is a much bigger move out at the float.
- Retighten the thumbscrew by hand. Brass against stainless is deliberate: it should never need a wrench and should never be forced.
- Let the trough fill and check it. Most people set the level an inch or so below the overflow so wind and animal movement do not slop water out.
The first thing to check if the waterer runs on
A bob float that has taken on water is the usual reason a Miraco overflows or will not shut off. Lift the float out and shake it. If you hear water inside, the float has failed, and no amount of adjusting the arm will fix it because the float can no longer lift hard enough to close the valve.
