The Franklin FRU thermostat, part 41604, has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer made. Two parts will replace it, and both are listed below.
REPLACEMENTS
- Petersen 100-1130 Fenwal thermostat, a direct replacement. The FRU, the Petersen and the Ritchie Fenwal are all Fenwal thermostats with the same thread, so it threads into the same opening. A brass nut is needed and is not included.
- Franklin Maverick thermostat with bracket, part 41606, a conversion kit. The bracket adapts the Maverick to the older Franklin opening, so it fits only the Franklin waterers that came with an FRU. This is the less expensive option.
The Ritchie stainless steel Fenwal thermostat, part 16534, uses the same Fenwal thread and will also fit, though it is priced higher than the Petersen.

ABOUT THE FRU THERMOSTAT
With a temperature range of 10 to 80 degrees, the Franklin FRU thermostat regulated the heaters in the waterer and kept the water from freezing through the coldest part of winter. It had an adjustable temperature knob and was used in these Franklin automatic waterers: EEPC1, EEPC2, PC10, F52, E20 and H1.
INSTRUCTIONS
The brass thermostat monitored the temperature of the water and triggered the heaters as needed. To adjust it, the black knob was turned counter clockwise to turn the heat up and clockwise to turn the heat down. Several adjustments were usually needed to settle on a temperature. The range was 10 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
