Everything you need is in the package
This thermostat package includes the O-ring and the brass nut, so there is nothing else to buy with it. If you want a lower-cost option, the Petersen 100-1130 is the same Fenwal style with the same thread, though it does need the Petersen 100-1131 nut ordered separately.
The Ritchie Stainless Steel Fenwal Thermostat (#16534) is designed for temperature control in larger Ritchie automatic waterers with stainless steel troughs. With an adjustable range from 0°F to 100°F, this thermostat allows you to fine-tune water temperature to prevent freezing while maintaining energy efficiency.
This unit is not factory preset, giving you full control over your waterer’s performance. Small adjustments go a long way—just a slight turn can noticeably change water temperature—helping you dial in the ideal setting for your conditions. For best efficiency, maintaining water around 44°F is recommended.
Built with durable stainless steel, this thermostat is made for long-lasting performance in tough livestock environments.
How to set the temperature
These steps come from Ritchie’s own manual for the Fenwal thermostat. There is no knob on this thermostat. The setting is changed with a flat head screwdriver in the slot on the face.
- Fill the trough to the proper water level.
- Take the water temperature with a thermometer.
- Check it again the following morning.
- Warmer than you want, turn it down. Ice forming on the surface, turn it up.
Change it a little at a time. A 1/16 turn moves the water temperature about 7 degrees F, which is 4 C. Around 44 degrees F, or 7 C, in the trough runs the most economically. The adjustable range is 0 degrees F up to 100 degrees F.
Counterclockwise raises the setting. Toward H is warmer, toward C is cooler.
Turn counterclockwise, toward H, to raise the setting. Turn clockwise, toward C, to lower it.
