Description

20 grids, about 53.8 square feet of coverage. Enough for a run in shed apron or a short lane through a soft spot.

The Hahn Mud Control Grid is ground reinforcement you lay straight on top of the mud. No gravel base, no digging, no tools. The grids interlock into a self supporting surface that spreads weight the way a snowshoe does, so hooves and tires stay on top instead of sinking in.

  • 19.5 x 19.5 inches per grid, about 2.7 square feet of coverage
  • About 15 pounds each, light enough to carry and set by hand
  • Holds up to 5.6 tons per square foot, so it takes a tractor as easily as a horse
  • Made from hanit, a 100 percent recycled plastic that will not rot or rust
  • Open 2 inch holes let water drain and grass grow up through
  • 20 year manufacturer warranty

The big advantage is that they are not permanent. Lift them, move them, add to them, or take them with you when you leave. If you are boarding or renting, this is the option that does not become the landlord’s property.

Built for gateways, feeding areas, run in sheds, water troughs, high traffic lanes and anywhere the ground gives out first.

Hahn Mud Control Grid

Lay it on the mud. No base, no tools.

Interlocking ground reinforcement that spreads weight like a snowshoe, so hooves and tires stay on top instead of sinking in. Lift it and move it whenever you need it somewhere else.

How these ship

These are heavy, and how they travel depends on how many you order. Here is the whole thing so there are no surprises at checkout.

Mud Control Grids, under 20

Ships by parcel carrier. Grids go out 4 to a box, and a full box runs about 61 pounds at 20 x 20 x 10 inches. Your shipping is calculated at checkout, so you will see the cost before you order.

Mud Control Grids, 20 or more

Ships by freight. Freight rates change by destination and by how the truck can get to you, so we quote these one at a time rather than guessing. Send a freight quote request and we will come back with a real number.

Paddock Slabs, any quantity

Paddock Slabs ship by freight regardless of how many you order, so every slab order goes through a freight quote.

Pick up is always an option. Any order, any size, grids or slabs, can be picked up in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania at no shipping cost. If you are within driving distance this is usually the cheapest way to do it, especially on a pallet.

Choose pickup at checkout or mention it on your quote request and we will hold it for you.

Installation

What installing them actually takes

Mud Control Grid

  1. Clear off loose debris and knock down the worst of the high spots. You do not need a level base.
  2. Lay the first grid down on the mud and press it in.
  3. Interlock the next one into it and keep going. The joined grids brace each other into a self supporting surface.
  4. That is it. No gravel, no fabric, no tools.

Grass grows up through the open holes over time, which locks them in further.

Paddock Slab

  1. Excavate and prepare a proper base. This is the real work, and it is not optional.
  2. Grade and compact the base to the manufacturer specification.
  3. Lay and join the slabs across the prepared area.
  4. Fill and finish according to Hahn’s technical guide.

Plan on equipment and time. In return you get a permanent, finished surface.

Not sure how many you need? Measure the area in square feet and divide by 2.7 for grids, or by 2.15 for slabs. Order a little over rather than a little under, since the edges are where you always want a bit more.

Which one

Mud Control Grid or Paddock Slab

Both are Hahn, both are 100 percent recycled hanit plastic, and both carry a 20 year warranty. The difference is whether you want something you can pick up again.

Mud Control Grid

  • Lay it on top of the mud. No gravel base, no digging, no tools
  • Movable. Lift it, add to it, take it with you
  • 19.5 x 19.5 inches, about 2.7 sq ft each
  • About 15 lb each
  • Holds 5.6 tons per square foot
  • Best for gateways, feeders, water troughs, lanes and soft spots

Paddock Slab

  • Permanent. Requires ground preparation and a proper install
  • A finished surface, not a reinforcement mat
  • 15.75 x 19.625 x 1.625 inches each
  • 4.6 lb each
  • Load class SLW 60 under DIN 1072
  • Best for paddocks, arenas, exercise runs, feeding areas and trails

Renting or boarding? Go with the grids. They are not attached to anything, so they stay yours. A paddock slab install becomes part of the property.

Common questions

Do I need a gravel base under the mud control grids?

No. That is the main thing that separates them from most ground reinforcement. You lay them straight on top of the mud and interlock them. Paddock Slabs are different and do require ground preparation.

Can I move them later?

The grids, yes. Lift them, add to them, or take them with you. That makes them a good option if you are boarding or renting, since they never become part of the property. Paddock Slabs are a permanent install.

Will they hold a tractor?

The grids are rated to 5.6 tons per square foot, and the slabs to load class SLW 60 under DIN 1072. Both handle vehicles as well as livestock.

How many do I need?

Measure your area in square feet. Divide by 2.7 for grids or by 2.15 for slabs. Round up rather than down, because the edges always take more than you expect.

Will grass grow through them?

Yes, through the open 2 inch holes in the grids. That is normal and it helps lock them in place over time.

What is the warranty?

Twenty years from Hahn against manufacturing defect, on both the grids and the slabs. In normal use they generally last well past that.

How do orders of 20 or more ship?

By freight, with a quote. Freight cost depends on your destination and how the truck can reach you, so we quote each one rather than guessing. You can also pick up in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania at no shipping cost.

Can I pick them up instead of paying shipping?

Yes, any order, any size. Pickup is in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. On a pallet it is usually the cheapest way to do it by a wide margin.
