Description
Description
The Franklin Mineral Vane Oiler and Mineral Feeder puts two jobs in one spot. Cattle come for the mineral and oil themselves on the way in and out, so fly control stops being a separate trip around the pasture.
This is the #49001, supplied with the base, so it stands on its own wherever you set it and does not need to be hung from a gate or a post. The hood keeps weather off the mineral, because mineral that has crusted over is mineral the cattle quit eating.
If you already have a base, the same unit is stocked without one as #49002. The replacement mop #49005 and the 2 inch tank cap #49020 fit both.
Oiler and Mineral Feeder Questions
How does a walk through oiler work?
How does a walk through oiler work?
Cattle walk under it on the way to water or mineral and the hanging mops wipe insecticide along the back and sides. Because they treat themselves every time they pass, you get steady fly control without running them through a chute.
Where should I set it up?
Where should I set it up?
Put it somewhere the herd has to pass through, a gate between the lot and the water or the mineral station works best. If the cattle can walk around it, they will.
How often do the mops need replacing?
How often do the mops need replacing?
Replace them when they are packed with dirt and hair or no longer holding charge. Replacement mops and wicks are stocked here for both the walk through oiler and the mineral vane oiler.
Will the mineral feeder keep loose mineral dry?
Will the mineral feeder keep loose mineral dry?
That is what the contoured hood and the rubber lid are for. Mineral that has crusted over is mineral the cattle stop eating, so keeping rain and snow off it is most of the job.
What do I put in the oiler?
What do I put in the oiler?
Use an insecticide labeled for cattle back rubbers or oilers and mix it as the label states. Follow the label for the product you buy, not a general rule of thumb, since concentrations differ.
